Professor Dong’s expertise includes power system planning and stability, power system cascading failure and contingency assessment, smart grid/micro-grid, load modelling, renewable energy grid connection, electricity market, data analytics, artificial intelligence and computational methods for energy systems.  

He contributed to the NSW Summer Preparedness work with the Chief Scientist’s office to evaluate the reliability and associated emergency control of the energy market/system for NSW over summer. The study identified bush fire as the primary risk factor for electricity supply.
